ILLINOIS EVICTION MORATORIUM LIFTED

In Illinois, a State moratorium on evictions expired on Sunday, October 3, 2021.  What comes next for residential tenants depends on their county of residence.  In many counties, the process from the landlord’s filing to the enforcement of an eviction order by the county sheriff can take months.  Renters facing eviction (an eviction order has already been entered by the court) should call their county sheriff to see if they are scheduled for a specific eviction date.  However, if the eviction Order is over 120 days old, then the sheriff should not be enforcing the Order – the landlord is required by law to get an extension order from the court that ordered the eviction.
